adaptation = ability to change to environment.

Stress is the body reaction to change to environment. The quicker the body can change to environment the less stress accumulates.  The accumulation of stress on the body effects even the cellular level with speed of metabolism, oxidation, detoxing and fluid balance. The organs and tissues all react to this stress according to what happens from the microscopic level.

Emotions change after change with environment. The quicker the cry the quicker the peace happiness. The cry becomes a learned behavior from infancy.  The infants’ only communication to let someone know they need or want something. When caregivers neglect needs, the child cries more and adapts on its own or fails to thrive.  My fathers motto, “sink or swim”. He truly threw me in a creek and said this and I swam.. His love for me though I did  not think he would of let me drown. A year before my father teaching me to swim, I did almost drown. The creek between our land and our cousin’s land was flooded out to where the crossing board was not crossable. So, my brother threw sister and I towards my cousin on the other side to catch us. I unfortunately, fell in the middle of the creek.  I heard my brother scream, “snake cottonmouth”  panicked and almost drowned had he not jumped in to save me.

This becomes part of them how they survive.  It is a learning behavior that others including the caregiver that neglected them perceive as crazy behavior when it was there neglecting that helped form this pattern of learning. A psychologist can spot this child as a genius in disguise. The parent(caregiver) sees them as a defect. This causes more and more distance between the two and differing views until they love one another but hurt each other unintentionally. The parent neglects and verbally abuses, and the child cries more, isolates, and disassociates. The parent views child as defiant crazy and dangerous.  This child has in fact adapted to environment so the crazy one is the parent whom is abusive. No child at age six should have a cut on knee that takes over a year to heal. But I can say without this harsh of neglect I most likely would of never notice it as being neglect at all and mind would not of disassociated. My mind not only disassociated but searched to find answers and associated to dictionaries media news other families at a very young age. As the child turns into adult, the cry is replaced with seeking help from doctors, lawyers, preachers, and teachers.  The child does not seek help from the neglecting caregiver anymore. The child adapted.  This unfortunately, strangely angers not only the caregiver but anyone who knows the caregiver as well; because they cared for the others in a way only known to them.

The neglected child has no clue at all what it is like to fall down and then receive a hug.  This child can only imagine it is like the best feeling ever.  They only know if they fall the caregiver will scold them and neglect their wound.  Then while adapting,  and try their best to never fall and become frightened of standing on a ladder.   For there is no one, not even the “caregiver” cares that you fell down. This feeling of neglect and frightfulness is enhanced due to you are chosen not forced into the family by birth but adopted told as young as can remember that you are special, so the adapting child searches reasons why if I am so special does she not care? What is severely wrong with me?

It is clearly not the things she sees, because I never fell again and hurt my knee like that as a child; lol, but I have as grownup lots of times. I have adapted some to not be quite as afraid of falling.  Without mistakes, how do you know where to even begin to improve?  These are questions my mind constantly has that are only answered back by my own thoughts and research; for anything said to the caregiver, I was told I was talking back and spanked. The only word allowed was yes mam. I was not even allowed to say no mam.  I was spanked into agreeing to everything she said.  She was clearly wrong; and on occasion, I would scream the truth to her. My opinion does matter and would clearly help her also if she would just hear the words no matter if I was spanked. My mind thought the louder the better; because Dad, marine master sergeant, always screamed to make a point. So, I seen that it worked for him.   When trying to make a point, I screamed at her with all I had in me to desperately try for her to hear my words. This only made things worse. I became a devil to her not only a talker backer.  Now, I am among crazy possessed; for now, she screams at me get the behind me Satan.

So now as teenager, cut all communication from her except what she says to me and only answer her in truth no matter if she does not believe me or spanked for saying no mam. I took a spank for her asking me if I took her sewing scissors at the age of 16. I truthfully said no mam and received spank. I wonder if I would of lie and told her what she believe to be the truth if I would of received spank?

I know this sounds like fiction my whole “real” life but is completely true. I can relate to Jesus in so many ways.  I never realize writers had to come up with things to write about to make it “literature” My real life is literature literally.  People keep asking me over on this site where do I come up with my ideas? My source? It is all my life every bit of it except two post that I posted of my daughters college papers because I am proud momma. I love her so much. So If I flunk Literature class this semester you will know why I am totally Naive until last semester that literature is fiction.  This is how dumb I am in english I never looked up the meaning of literature before this year. Because I always knew the meaning of the word literal and thought these two correlated.

“1. written material such as poetry, novels, essays, etc., esp works of imagination characterized by excellence of style and expression and by themes of general or enduring interest”   This brings me to tears to learn also because this is my mothers favorite quote to me even to this day” Lori Ann you are just imagining things”
I imagine a world of perfect peace, love, happiness for the real peace not my mom’s view of peace.  Sorry mom but I do not like war, killing, abuse and hatred no disrespect. But yes you are the person who helped form my opinions by your actions. For that I have respect, without your devil’s advocate veiws I would not have anything at all to talk about which is not nice to gossip but these are not gossip the real truth exposed whether you like it or not I am stating it for your benefit not your downfall.  I love you as much as you could possibly imagine. Do you even imagine mom? Maybe you should try it sometime.

You imagine what you desire and it becomes a reality.  You think seriously on how to do bad. I have heard you countless times “well I oughta””Let me just put a stop to” “this is what you tell them” “this is just a white lie” “Daddy does not know I have this money” “this is not the real balance in the checkbook” I have heard you caculate how to do people meaness. You plan things out to  bring about saddness in someone’s life then sit back and laugh and brag that someone you do not like gets hurt or not doing good.  “you get what you deserve” “Haha””Be sure your sins will find you out” NONE of these things are nice mom these are the things to be repenting of not bragging about.   When you fill your brain full of good thoughts like philipians 4:8 whatsoever things are honest, pure, just, of good report ——well when you think of this, this will become your desires. If you truly love God, he gives you these desires. If you believe in this that is faith and it can move a mountain if your heart is right and at least the size of a mustard seed.
I thankyou also for taking me to Missionettes as a child for I have said this prayer everynight since fourteen years old before I go to bed at night.  Phillipians 4:8 was the last thing I got to learn as a missionette before you totally stopped the program at the church.

I moved to Sheridan the spring toward the ending second grade. May 1978 only 2 weeks left in the school year I had already learned cursive writing by then they hadn’t. They had learned multiplication and division.  I had not. In two weeks, I learned it so well that I have always excelled in math.  Advanced classes and put in algebra I in the 8th grade. During this first two weeks of starting a new school I was pushed down on the play ground due to my color back then I tanned with my sister in the sun everyday so yes I was darker than a lot of blacks in those days. I went to the nurse and she cleansed my knee.  I was so excited at the time to learn the math I knew I would be alright as long as I spend recess alone. Things went a little better due to I am adopted into a german family. I was very blessed to have my blonde hair hazel eyed sister only 6 months younger and in 1st grade at the time, or I am sure the push downs on the playground would of lasted longer.   I had not one friend while at school though, until 8th grade 1983. Theresa Larson I shall never forget her.    I spent every overnight day I could at her house.  Her dad is the owner of whiterock so at her house back in the day when MTV first hit television she had this.  We would sit up all night long watching cable television on MTV.  I never knew what cable tv was until I met her. We listened to Boy George, Duran Duran, Cindy Lauper, Madonna, Prince you had every album.   This school goes strictly by test scores and grades to be placed in the advance classes.

The sex part of the abuse started this year 1978. The snuggling was all it was until this year. Until this year I thought, my Dad was the greatest man alive despite his authoritative voice from being a Marine Master Sergeant for 24 years straight home from the war. I was always a Daddy’s girl. I have always been his favorite before and after the abuse. I love my father even after the abuse for I know and realize even then that war could drive a person crazy. From all the war movies I sat and watched with my father I knew this. He never spoke of the war but watched every movie(<–this is the movie I asked him about if it was really like this) there is about it. I would ask Daddy was that how it really is?( the man screaming is a master sergeant this is what my dad was after 24 years he has friends still in that were under him that became general) He would say yes only 10 times worse. I wish my therapist Mr. Ernest Wahrburg could have greeted my Dad off the plane.

SCHREINER, ANDREW M., JR. Synopsis: The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star Medal to Andrew M. Schreiner, Jr. (1438592), Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving with Marine Attack Squadron 214 (VMA-214), 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, in connection with combat operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam on October 28, 1965. By his courage, aggressive fighting spirit and steadfast devotion to duty in the face of extreme personal danger, Sergeant Schreiner upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service. Home Town: Denver, Colorado

My father never discussed the war with me much at all just watched the movies.  I know he won this award and I overheard a conversation that it was because he picked up a live bomb and threw it saving him and others around him. He threw it off a plane.   He retired from marines after 20 years then was called back to go overseas in the war for 4 more years.   He is semper fi all the way and would probably go to war today if someone allowed him to do it.  Colorado is the state where my oldest brother was born (1958).  The family lived in Hawaii when my next brother was adopted.  He was born 6 years later(1964).    I was born in Phoenix and my family living in Yuma, Arizona when I was born (1970.)  Sister was born 6 months later(1971) still living in Yuma.    We were living at Chery Point, North Carolina at the age of my first rememberence when I was 3(1973).  I do not remember the move much except. I remember blue station wagon and going over a very tall bridge.  So I do have very slight recollection of the move.  So I would say very close to me being 3 is when we moved to North Carolina.

Not only the war could make him crazy but this I did not learn until I was 15 when my Dad gave me a formal apology for the first time due to my Dad was about to divorce mom. Daddy came to me and asked when we divorce where do you want to live? I said without any hesitation with you Daddy because he stopped abusing me remained a great Father in my eyes. My mom was continuously abusive towards me. Andrew Michael Schreiner said, “if you live with me your mother is going to bring up the abuse in your childhood; I want you to know that I am truely sorry for what I did the reason I did that is because your mother never had sex with me after Lisa was born and also because you are adopted” I knew already he was truly sorry for what he had done due to he had never done anymore to me after the day of my mom catching him redhanded at 8 years old in the bathroom. So I said to my father ” Daddy I know your sorry- you never did that anymore. If you leave momma please, I beg you, do not leave me here!”During this time my Dad was living in the RV on the Arsenal for months, the house we lived in that was the nicest house ever on Crossroad(<—this is one of the houses on that street, ours was a 4 br rock and cedar 2 acre front yard) was up for sale. We were neighbors to Dr. Shaka Khan who lived up the street on Dyson Rd. Which I thought was the coolest thing ever due to the song “Chaka Khan”. I never met the Dr. but would always look into that yard every time we passed by. I would see glimpse of his wife with scarf over her head and a tiny dot on her forehead. I thought she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. There are not many people in the whole world that can say they lived up the street from a Dr. Shaka Khan.

 Chaka Khan    Shaka   Khan

My sister a tomboy was a momma’s girl. Her being the tomboy I realize now must have somehow enforced my mom’s favoritism towards her due to her wanting her to behave like a lady so much for my sister would wear boy clothes and even go shirtless and in 1st grade get in argument with mom loudly saying,” if boys can go shirtless, I can go shirtless.” My dear sister was a two by two board figure. Somehow I admired my sister for being able to talk like this to my mom. I never had this luxury ever in my life. My mom gave in to my sister which never happened to me in my life either. I have always had to say nothing but yes mam no matter what or “Lori Ann don’t talk back to me”. Anyways that very day was a new training bra for me so I then very greatly greatly admired my sister for this outburst. I could not wait to train my little buds I was the most girly girl you ever did see in your life. Pink has always been my color. At age 14, mom ask us girls what color do we want our carpet in our room? Lisa chose blue/ I chose pink. My mom did the pink flower curtains also. I have always loved flowers so much. To this day, my sister can’t stand flowers as decorations so naturally she had plain blue curtains.

yea this is just really the first sentence of introducing the town of Sheridan what this post is really about.  I want to include in this post the facts of this small white town in rural South at the time I lived there  1. a sundowner town until the year 1985 2. the nearest towns to them are predominately black populations 3. The tree capital of the world 4.  President Clinton was the Governor when redistricting finally made a difference in the black/white school system. I feel as though this is President Clinton’s Greatest accomplishment knowing the evil he was up against personally. 5. More successful suicides occur in this all white town then anywhere.  Realize back then that it was not allowed for news to publish minors suicides.  But a few are published the most drastic but during my years lived there suicide and death was almost a common occurance 6. The school and children there are buckwild and never listen to the teachers in class but always rank the highest on all test scores. 7.  This town includes in its school district even though not part of it’s county even the EASTend of Little ROCK students from grades 5th to 12th.  This is a very wealthy neighborhood. A two story house here is Gheto they have 4 story houses in this neighborhood.  They bused these students to Sheridan an all white town from an all white neighborhood in Littlerock Saline county to be sure to go to an all white school Sheridan Grant County 18.4 miles oneway and provided the cadillac of buses to do it on.  These buses back then were airconditioned with the flat nose and radio.  This whole time during these years were people redisticting and busing blacks to white schools and fights and etc to make sure fair school for all colors.  This was the current events on the Arkansas news channels all these years I lived there.

I want to do this in a way that is about real true events of my life(2/2012 post) like a biography with these real facts included into the story so this would be you say a book really.  lol the longest thing I have ever written was only 12 pages. This when completed will be thousands of pages prob but who knows.  That paper that I wrote the 12 pages made F on it so I am clearly not that great a writer.  Anyone is welcome to use this information however they like for I am telling my story of my life for the GOOD OF EVERYBODY:) And to God please give all the GLORY of my life.

“Anemia, an easily reversible feature of end-stage renal disease, is an independent risk factor for clinical and echocardiographic cardiac disease, as well as mortality in end-stage renal disease patients.” (Robert N. Foley, 1996). Anemia in End stage renal disease patients can be easily managed. With the help of Epogen medication, the disease process is decreased. Patients suffer less cardiac diseases added to the renal disease. This will allow the patients to continue to be healthier than without the epogen. With the patients healthier less other medications will be needed. Patients with added heart disease are on multiple medications. Cardiac disease also includes more expensive procedures like cardiac caths, bypass surgery, and valve replacements. Pacemakers are common to help cardiac patients heart stay in rhythm. Not only is the expense more costly for sicker patients, the patients can no longer enjoy life as much being sick. Quality is poor. The quality can become so poor that walker, wheelchair, oxygen tank are now needed to go or do anything. Now the patient with extra medical conditions no longer qualifies for transplant. This patient will always be dependent on dialysis. Now with the cost of epogen saved through decreasing the dose, patients are sicker and costing more.

Yes I think the bullying is a coping mechanism set in from the home experience, and now it might be just automatic. The person may not realize it is wrong at all anymore. This is very dangerous. Unremorsfulness is a sign that it is leading from mal-adaptive behavior to psychopathic behavior. It could continue to worsen especially if no one speaks up about the bully. The child being bullied might be too scared to say anything. The adults need to observe and put a stop to it however possible.

Maggie,

I wonder do the people that are not able to get the narcotic turn to other drugs or street drugs? Will these cause seekers to go to multiple physicians and pharmacies? Could this lead to the premature deaths we hear about that overdosed on multiple medications?

What is a prospectus and why do you believe that it is important to the writing process? Conduct some independent research and post an example of a prospectus.

A prospectus is a formal introduction to a research paper. It includes the thesis and questions that are proposed. It includes who is involved in the process of answering the questions. It includes the purpose for finding the answers. The prospectus also includes table of contents, summary, and bibliography.

The prospectus helps the writer organize what is being researched and to decide what is necessary to find answers for the questions. It will also help the writer to see what is confusing and not necessary. The prospectus is not only helpful to the writer but also to the reader. It will help a reader decide if the research is worth reading, or if they would like to explore further.

I am interested in the topic of the cost of epogen vs. cost of what Medicare will pay for a dialysis patient. What does epogen cost? What does epogen do? Why is epogen necessary for dialysis patients? What hemoglobin level is mandatory for Medicare reimbursement? Why is there not a generic for epogen? Can patients get a transplant without using epogen and getting blood transfusions?

Working Thesis:

I am wanting to find out why the cost of the medication Epogen is so expensive that it is costing Medicare so much to reimburse that they are placing mandatory Hgb levels for reimbursement, but at the same time, the cost of the Epogen to keep the Hemoglobin at a pay level is too much for the clinic to afford without the reimbursement. Will patients get sicker and require more healthcare that will increase payments without the Epogen? More hospitalizations etc…..

Here is a copy I found of a prospectus:

Click to access ProspectusExample.pdf

By reading your example I can clearly see how this will help focus the researcher’s writing. The organization of the paper can be determined also due to there is so much information that you want to look at all the information and place it in the paper in the order that makes sense to the reader. It also gives validation as to why it is being researched in the first place. In the end of the prospectus the writer might determine that it is better left alone. After all research is sifted the arguments on both sides a compromise might be reached. You never know what might happen until the research ends. On another point, with the research recorded and written down others might decide to research more on that topic also.

God’s Will

Analytical Writing

5/16/2012

By Lori Schreiner

I am attracted to “God’s Will” by Martina McBride because of the use of metaphors.  Her use of a boy with the last name of a verb will that can also be used as a noun is what allows me to see this as a metaphor. You can interchange the words God’s will with love, and it becomes clearer.   God wills good things for my life that are most of the time unexpected.   I think I will learn after reading this song that God’s will is love.

The song “God’s Will” by Martina McBride is one of my favorites.  It makes me think of how God’s will, love, is so simple to find right in front of us.  We search, wonder and think about  God’s will in our life.  We do this only to discover all along God’s will is love.   God’s will, love, does not always come in the shape and form that we expect. “He was dressed as a bag of leaves” God’s Will, love, does not always come at the time we expect. “I met God’s Will on a Halloween night” God’s will, love, is always happy to see you no matter what the circumstances. “His smile was as bright as the August sun” God’s will, love, is different from the norm. “He don’t do the things that the other kids do” When you are in God’s will, love; you will be happy.  “And we’d all laugh like I hadn’t laughed since I don’t know when” You discover God’s will, love, after you have found it not before or after.

God’s will is love.  It is a moment that you just know in your heart.  That moment of discovery is when the boy writes on a napkin in crayon red me and God love you.  God’s will, love, is a gift that might not last forever.  Humans are not perfect.  The love was right there the whole time and recognizable at that one moment. It happened to where there was no time to share the news of finding it. “I never got to tell her that the boy showed me the truth.”

This song compares God’s will to a handicapped boy named will.  God’s will is love.  Love for our life is not perfect as we as humans are not perfect.  God’s will, love, does not meet man’s standards but God’s standards.  Love is God’s will.  Love is not something that money can buy, but is a gift to be treasured.  “each day that I have him”LOVE”well it’s just another gift”

God’s Will lyrics

I met God’s Will on a Halloween night
He was dressed as a bag of leaves
It hid the braces on his legs at first

His smile was as bright as the August sun
When he looked at me
As he struggled down the driveway, it almost
Made me hurt

Will don’t walk too good
Will don’t talk too good
He won’t do the things that the other kids do,
In our neighborhood

[Chorus:]
I’ve been searchin’, wonderin’, thinkin’
Lost and lookin’ all my life
I’ve been wounded, jaded, loved and hated
I’ve wrestled wrong and right
He was a boy without a father
And his mother’s miracle
I’ve been readin’, writin’, prayin’, fightin’
I guess I would be still
Yeah, that was until
I knew God’s Will

Will’s mom had to work two jobs
We’d watch him when she had to work late
And we’d all laugh like I hadn’t laughed
Since I don’t know when

Hey Jude was his favorite song
At dinner he’d ask to pray
And then he’d pray for everybody in the world but him

[Chorus]

Before they moved to California
His mother said, they didn’t think he’d live
And she said each day that I have him, well it’s just
another gift
And I never got to tell her, that the boy
Showed me the truth
In crayon red, on notebook paper, he’d written
Me and God love you

I’ve been searchin’, prayin’, wounded, jaded
I guess I would be still
Yeah that was until…
I met God’s Will on a Halloween night
He was dressed as a bag of leaves

“Live Like You Were Dyin'”, by Tim Mcgraw-recorded the same month that his father died of a brain tumor.
This song makes me stop to think how I am living at every moment of my life. The very beginning the person dying is in his early 40s with a lot of life before me. Then the news stopped him “on a dime” The son then ask for his advice what did you do after getting the news of dying? His answer is he did all the things that he hadn’t done before. My favorite one is that “I went 2.7 seconds on a bull name Fumanchu. It seems to mean to me that he won against dyin by living the things that he loves. He realizes the most important things are to love and forgive. “tommorrow is a gift and you have an eternity to think about what you would do with it” When you think about tommorrow as a gift with an enternity of what to do with that gift, it makes me want to spend my life as “I were dying” giving as much as I can to as many people as I can. Sometimes giving as much as you can means you need to eat healthy, exercise and say no sometimes. In the big scheme of things will allow you to give the most because you will live longer.

He said I was in my early 40’s,
With a lot of life before me,
And a moment came that stopped me on a dime.
I spent most of the next days, lookin’ at the x-rays,
Talkin’ ’bout the options and talkin’ ’bout sweet time.
Asked him when it sank in, that this might really be the real end.
How’s it hit ya, when you get that kind of news.
Man what ya do.
And he says,

[Chorus]

I went sky divin’,
I went rocky mountain climbin’,
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull name Fumanchu.
And I loved deeper,
And I spoke sweeter,
And I gave forgiveness I’ve been denying,
And he said someday I hope you get the chance,
To live like you were dyin’.

He said I was finally the husband,
That most the time I wasn’t.
And I became a friend a friend would like to have.
And all the sudden goin’ fishing,
Wasn’t such an imposition.
And I went three times that year I lost my dad.
Well I finally read the good book,
And I took a good long hard look at what I’d do
If I could do it all again.
And then.

[Chorus]

Like tomorrow was a gift and you’ve got eternity
To think about what you do with it,
What could you do with it, what can
I do with with it, what would I do with it.

[Chorus]
Sky divin’,
I went rocky mountain climbin’,
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull name Fumanchu.
And I loved deeper,
And I spoke sweeter,
And I watched an eagle as it was flyin’.
And he said someday I hope you get the chance,
To live like you were dyin’.

To live like you were dyin’.
To live like you were dyin’.
To live like you were dyin’.
To live like you were dyin’.

In the essay, Assimilation American Style, by Peter Stalins, the pitch is that America in a sense is not a melting pot due to the freedoms to maintain and have the rights of your native culture. So each culture maintains their own ethnicity through laws in place to rightfully practice their ways. He argues that with no melting there is not in a sense an “American” culture only different ethnic societies. At the end Stalins contemplates that to fit in a group you need to conform to the majority.

In the essay, The Fearof Losing a Culture, by Richard Rodriguez, the pitch is that Hispanics have assimilated until their original culture is becoming unknown. You are finding more and more of the Mexican Americans in movies, comedy, plays, music, etc… Not only is the original culture becoming lost Mexicans are putting there mark into the melting pot. Rodriguez complaints the point that Mexicans had experienced melting in Mexico before arriving to America, and that Mexicans come here for niceties that are not found in Mexico. They like the nice things here and melt into the pot easily.

When reading Rodriguez’s essay, I surmised that he is concerned that the identity is already lost all together of Indian and Spanish. That already the Mexican is both cultures. That when looking at the Mexican already you cannot tell which one is the most dominate. The Mexican learned to assimilate well before arriving to United States. Now comes to US for nicer things and loses more culture easily.

“Traditional depictions of the family present it as a voluntary site of intimacy and warmth, but it also functions as a site of consumption.”

Customary portrayals of the family show the loved ones as an unpaid position of understanding and sincerity, but it also operates as a position of depletion.

The key words unpaid position and position of depletion indicate that the much loved ones that are unpaid are the ones that will deplete everything. Love gives and gives until there is nothing left. Therefore the family will deplete it resources.

I think it is trying to tell us in order to replenish you must say no sometimes. Like do not give to a child throwing a temper tantrum. You must give love and punishment for the family to last. That goes for everyone in the family. It is a give and take situation. If you only give them everything, you will run out. This concept is for whatever income level you are at. If I was a billionaire, my children I would still want to give everything. I would still have to tell them no even if I could afford everything they want. Example “no you can’t drink and drive”. This is a love even more than the giving. This is a love to keep them alive and a better life.

What you say or write about has always happened or was thought about before being said or written. Now that it is said, it brings back memories or stimulates memories. The mind is amazing. I like your paraphrase very much. It helps me to understand the sentence more.

The Gettysburg Address Analysis

Gettysburg Address Analysis

Applying five motives

What I find most interesting about the Gettysburg Address is the theme of birth along with the contrast of death. The beginning implies the birth of a new nation. “Conceived in liberty” is the start of the nation in the past. Now is currently contemplating if the liberties still exist by stating “any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure”. The very next sentence ties this together stating,” We are met on the great battlefield of that war.” The next sentence brings the focus to death with the words “Final resting place” and “gave their lives” and at the end of that very sentence stresses the word live stating “that that nation might live”. The next sentence repeats “can not” three times in the one sentence. The next sentence has life and death in the same sentence. This sentence contrast “living and dead” and also contrast “add or detract”. The next sentence takes a pause by using words “long remember” “never forget”. After the sentence that pauses, brings me to want to move forward by the use of the word “living”. This sentence also implies can do three times by using the adverbs “for us”, “to be”, and “here to”. The end of this sentence punctuates “us the living” at the beginning stating “nobly advanced”. The last sentence ties together that the honored dead should not have died in vain contrasted with how they won’t die in vain as a birth of a new nation, “a new birth of freedom”.

“post your analysis of which repetition, strand, or binary is most important for understanding what it is you are observing.”

The most important in my analysis

Binary: 1. living and the dead, 2. far above/poor power, 3. add/detract

Repetition:” We can not” repeated 3 times. People repeated 3 times

Strand: the most important strand is the first one ” gave their lives that that nation might live” this strand includes repetition with” that that” and also the lives/live and binary “gave their lives” meaning dead vs. “live” this first strand is genius in my eyes.

Last sentence is a string of strands with three of them starting with the word that.

This whole speech is pure genius, I could probably write a 5 page paper on this one speech.

Yes, I see that also that the President includes everyone in using we the people, living and dead, past and present. He unites everybody and then wants everyone to remember this war to never repeat this to always move forward reaching for a better tomorrow. We can by remembering this past become better in the future.

Facebook a Cultural Phenomenon

I notice co-workers on Facebook at work all the time. During break everyone sits around the table staring at their cell while chatting with each other. Nobody telling of what is going on on the cell.  Why?  There is television in the room.  There are humans in close encounters that we know and can communicate with.  Do we need the comfort of knowing we can talk every second of the day with our closer friends and loved ones?  While working can look at the latest status of your daughter to feel comfortable knowing she is still in this word somewhere looking at her cell also. We are all different close together and far apart. All on the same thing doing the same- checking the Facebook status of friends and family.  Will this continue until all we do is check the status until that will become our status?

“Founded in 2004, Facebook’s mission is to make the world more open and connected. People use Facebook to stay connected with friends and family, to discover what’s going on in the world, and to share and express what matters to them.”(Facebook newsroom fact sheet, http://newsroom.fb.com/content/default.aspx?NewsAreaId=22 , retrieved April 15, 2012) So we continuously sit and share what matters to us in a status hundreds of miles away, hoping possibly it matters to them too.  Why?  There are others in the room in close proximity? Do we matter to them as much? Or are we bored, and it’s a chance to break away from the mundane routine of life at work and step into the status of others far off?

Rangeland

Based on your reading from the text and what you came across on the Internet, explain what is meant by a rangeland. Do you think the government should charge fees for ranchers to use public rangelands for their herds? Or is the management of the ecological services provided by rangelands services something for which all citizens should be contributing? Explain in 2-3 paragraphs, including at least 1 cited research resource.

Rangelands are open areas of land that have shrubs, grass, and open fields.  The land is necessary for the habitat of animals that can get energy from cellulose.  These animals are needed to produce milk.  The other animals that live in the range only eat the things that are low in cellulose.  The world would run out of milk to feed the world without rangeland.  Cows supply most of our milk due to the size of their digestive organs.

I believe all citizens should contribute to the management of the rangelands.  We are a blessed nation to have this land and as a nation should contribute for its use to remain for the survival of not only cows but everything that milk provides for everyone.  Milk is what babies drink, contains vital nutrients and minerals for all to survive.

Conservation of Resources discussion

Currently, the USDA provides substantial subsidies to farmers and ranchers to help them blend good farm practices and profitability. These subsidies include floor price subsidies for selected crops and products, land set-aside for soil renewal, crop rotation, protection of endangered species, wetland preservation, and other considerations.

Based on your reading from the text and what you came across on the Internet, use your own words to explain what “Sustainable Agriculture” is. Do you think efforts to find sustainable agricultural practices in this country should be subsidized? Explain your answer.

I think that subsidies do help to maintain sustainability. The subsidies are used so as to farms do not have to use up all their resources to grow a crop. The water, soil etc.. is maintained to not upset the made ecosystem for that individual farm. I do think that much food could be made carelessly but would not be sustained. It would be just as costly and cause damage to resources. The price of water itself would rise for everyone due to it would become scarce resource. Pesticides would contaminate soil and food more and more until it would affect animal survival. I do think that subsidies used for this are becoming just as corrupt as the subsidies used for oil.

Yes I believe also this is greatly needed to preserve the land, communities, wildlife, etc in a safe manner. I think educated farmers should be able to lobby and speak up on what is needed to help sustain healthy crops along with what is hindering it. They should be able to say example this new road through my crop is going to hinder my water supply or etc……I am just using this as an assumption for I am not a crop expert this is why I think the farmer should be able to speak on their individual behalf. Also due to each farm is totally different than the next one with totally different pest, animals, plants, soil, water supply etc…One rule of thumb might not be needed with one farm but something else that is not even mentioned could be needed.

Yes I am for this for the fact that this is needed to have better quality food and preserves wildlife, soil and protects the planet. The best part of sustainable agriculture is that it is self-sufficient with watering, soil, nutrients, etc… with the environment. The ecosystem is manageable without outside force or interference. When agriculture is not sustainable the food it produces lacks valuable nutrients and could die out altogether. Seeds will become rarer and rarer to find that produce good quality food when the environment is interfered with. The seeds could possibly even become extinct just like an animal can become extinct. No one pays as much attention to the seeds because they are seemly abundant. Pollution, pesticides effect seeds as well as the food the seeds produce. Also the environment, example bees are much needed for pollination. I am not an expert on these things but do not have to be a rocket scientist to know that sustainable agriculture is important enough to be subsidized.

The downside to subsidizing the agriculture is greed. That senator that I worked for that was the owner of an oil company also grew up as a farmer. He had many, many friends that farm. I went with him to the country club in Stuttgart, AR where he gave a speech once. Stuttgart if some might not know is the rice capital of the world not just this country but the world. He created laws with the farming like the laws with the oil that are non-disclosed. I do have friends that are farmers and according to some sources they say it’s possible to make more money letting crops go bad on purpose than to have a good crop.

Conservation of Resources discussion

In 2009, the US imported 1.7 billion barrels of petroleum from OPEC nations, and 2.5 billion barrels from non-OPEC nations. The largest supplier is Canada (with nearly 1 billion barrels), followed by Mexico (just under half a billion barrels) then Saudi Arabia. (Check for details on the website of the US Energy Information Administration: http://www.eia.gov/.)

To help reduce this dependence on foreign oil, there is growing pressure to begin using America’s abundant reserves of tar sands and oil shale. Based on your assigned reading and what you came across on the Internet, do you think mining tar sands and oil shale is a good alternative to imported oil? Or, do you think the higher cost and additional damage to the environment caused by mining these makes foreign oil more appealing? Or perhaps you have another alternative. Whichever you chose, please explain with details.

I believe that continuing to drill is very bad for the environment and way too costly. I do not think the oil industry is honest with public about the amount of oil available or not all over the world at this time. The subsidies are used to partly keep this a mystery. I do believe that the peak is here or very close for them to be so adamantly persistent to drill in such expensive and environmentally unsafe conditions. Foreign oil to me is more appealing due to the lesser effects on the environment. Safe alternatives should be put into place as soon as possible due to rising cost and rising consumption of energy. The dependence on oil itself is contributing to the high cost of oil whether it be foreign oil or close. When the sources are low the cost will be high no matter where that oil comes from. When the oil is harder and more costly to drill along with the bad economy( will take more dollars than other currency to invest in the drilling) will make the price more than it already is. The price of drilling has a lot to do with the market and currency values also. This is one reason why countries with oil have so much power in congress.

A windmill on top of the car maybe? It might would take off slow, but the wind generated at full speed no telling how fast that might be able to get. Time has to be involved in how fast an object can go with whatever energy is used. Example it takes time for solar to heat up. This society is blessed to have a burst of seemingly immediate energy for everything. Is there some way we could slow down the speed of the portable energies we have today like dilute it? This would slow down the use also to create more time for fuels to catch up with the demand. This is hard to explain due to I am not a rocket scientist. I see two things that slow down energy consumption dilution and recycling. How to do that I would have to leave to scientist, because I do not have that knowledge. I am just a nurse and a mom. This is another reason why I am all for subsidies to scientist.

Katie I wonder a lot about that one. Where I live they do rolling blackouts randomly throughout the year for the reason to decrease the consumption due to the demand is too high and price would be too much. I do not think it is shortage but who knows. I do know the last rolling scheduled blackout, they blackout even the airport. It is very inconvenient to my job due to my patients are all on a machine cleaning their blood. When the power goes out we have to manually return their blood to them in the dark.

Conservation Of Resources Discussion

Critics of predictions based on “Peak Oil” Theory raise several issues that they contend will affect the production of oil. These include the use of petroleum substitutes (biofuels, for example), introduction of energy conservation technologies (hybrid cars), discovery of new reserves (opening the west bank of Greenland to oil exploration), and a more friendly climate among politicians and the public to oil producers (advocates of “drill baby drill”).

Describe one or two ways in which the US government subsidies might affect the rate of production for petroleum within the US. Should the US use tax dollars to increase subsidies and thereby encourage more oil exploration and petroleum production associated with new drilling technologies? Or might this be counter-productive and be detrimental to the energy industry overall? Explain your reasoning.

I think it would be detrimental to encourage more drilling and more oil exploration. I think the oil we have should be used at a slower rate. This is hard to slow the rate down when the world population is growing exponentially. I am very good with math and numbers and do not have to be a rocket scientist to see that we need alternatives to the oil industry. The problem with the alternatives are that none of the alternatives to date can possibly keep up with the demand of how much oil is currently being used or be as cheap as oil. So my solution is educate our youth and make science so interesting to them that they may discover better solutions that are safe. The only ways I see to slow the rate down are to increase prices of the oil and restrict drill baby drill. These are such hard decisions to make but when looking into the eyes of your children the decision is easier. Maybe my son can learn how to do something with nuclear fusion that we do not know about yet, or someone elses child. Maybe he can learn how to make a survivable ecosystem in outerspace. I give my son the internet and all the wealth of information I can afford. Books by the thousands I have bought for him. Money and subsidies should be given for experimental research in new technologies.

The hardest part of bringing a new idea foward is backing and funding. That is why the subsidies should go for innovation and new things not the old that are making profits already. If a company is making profits, they should not continue to get help.

This not only goes for new energy but other things as well. Its not that scientist have not discovered things to make life better for us like new medicines and things that can do more. It’s those things are hard to get because they are very expensive because a drug company has to fund all the testing then take a chance that it will work and be out millions if it doesn’t work..

My son had an idea that each country goes before the UN with ideas. The UN backs the idea and that scientist has X amount of years to find the cure or invention getting paid subsidies etc.; and all along the way, have to report to the UN showing progress in the idea. If they are not shown to make progress or nothing happens, then stop funding and fund a different scientist. Then after the invention or cure is found, the UN funds for it to be put into place. Every country involved in the UN gets the new invention or cure. The subsidies would be worldwide not just here because the planet is at stake not just our one little corner of it. This would make it fairer also because it would be not who you know that gets you the subsidy or the same ones getting it over and over. It would be picked from experts worldwide. Kinda like the IB high school diploma, my son’s homework is sent to other countries to be graded and is completely unbiased due to the grader has never met or seen my son at all. They do not know if he worked a little time on the project or a long time. They only judge the work on its own merit.

I believe they cannot ever get rid of the oil subsidies as long as we use oil. The subsidies help to make it a cheaper price at the pump when the reserves are being used waiting on fresh oil to start again. The price will climb the more reserves we use though. It must be this way also to not run out of oil all together. The subsidies also help those little countries that fight and go to war over the oil not to fight so much. It’s just a big mess. The best thing isfor us to find other energy sources. Leave what oil we have in the ground and find alternatives.

I used to work for a Senator that was also the owner of a oil company. He was chairman of the ways and means committee, chairman of the welfare committee, chairmen of the transportaion committee, etc….

With him having so much power he introduce laws to make it impossible to know what the oil company even does. The laws were passed to where nothing about his business can be publicly disclosed. If you try to even research this senator on the internet through wikapedia even you can not find information on what laws he even created or that he was even a senator. They do have much power. It is almost scary. I will just say the state is Arkansas.

Yes he used his power as a senator to introduce his legislation because he was the chairman of the committee that decides what bills get to be even discussed. If he does not want to discuss a bill it won’t even get mentioned, but you can bet your bottom dollar anything he wanted discussed was discussed. I was his personal secretary and seen first-hand how the system works for one very powerful senator. It is all in what you can do for the next person. And the person with the power they want to give everything too and the people that give get more. I seen first-hand letters filed in his personal senator files.. Letters of can you please get me the position of prosecuting attorney??? And yes that person that wrote and asked this of him was the prosecuting attorney. Is not this job an elected position?

This employment position of mine discouraged me from ever voting in my life.

The world’s average population growth rate for 2008 was approximately 1.7%, compared to a US growth rate of 0.9%. However, the natural resource consumption rate per capita for US citizens was five times greater than the average person in the developing world.

Encouraged by the UN, many developing countries promote population management by taxing families with children to reduce populations. China’s “One Child Policy” is a good example. They criticize the US, Europe, and Japan as populations with high consumption rates that give families tax incentives for having children. The US response is that high worker productivity necessitates high consumption. It takes consumption to make production.

So, what do you think? Should the US continue to offer Federal Income Tax Deductions for more than two children when Americans have such high natural resource consumption rates? Explain your answer.

RE: Tax Incentives to help conservation

Schreiner, Lori

Business’s that go paperless should get tax benefit. Bus tickets should be tax deductible. For every new business that cuts a tree down to build should plant a tree elsewhere. Census should be done of abandoned homes and incentives given to states with less than 2% empty homes this includes apartments, trailers rentals, anything considered a home. If there are empty commercial buildings, permits to build more commercial buildings should be denied. Any empty building that is not energy efficient with guidelines set should be torn down allowing a permit to be available for new building that is energy efficient.

I think with the growth rate so much a tax reduction for not having a child would be immoral. The earned income credit for poor wage earners has been capped at 2 dependents since the beginning of the income credit. I think that it has deterred some into having less children. Most families cannot afford more than 2 children due to the cost of living. Me personally love my two children dearly and could never put a price on them. If I made a billion dollars a year would not be as much as the love I have for my children. I am adopted and do not know my biological family at all. My two children are my only heritage and are priceless.

My children are all I have with my DNA. My son only has me 3 uncles a sister and a dad. I do not know where the dad and three uncles are even at. So yes to me my heritage would die out without my children.

My daughter’s dad was paralyzed from the waist down in an auto wreck when she was only three year’s old. She is his only child and will never have another. He only has a sister so his name is over with Vison pedigree line with my daughter boom vanished when she marries. So yes it is very important to him also.

I am more concerned about the DNA(heritage) than the pedigree{name). But this is just my personality. I am saying with the tax bracket with the earned income credit they evened it out with the rich. The poor can only have two children and can afford to live. The middleclass can only have two children and afford to live. That in turn makes the population less because everyone mainly has only two children. The ones that do the invetro and everything are blessed to be able to afford this luxury, or sacrifice way more than those that have only two children.

I am saying that there is a decrease in the population growth of the US. The income tax credit made it for all income levels to not be able to afford more than two children therefore decreasing the population growth rate. So this worked it accomplished what it was set out to do. You can only get a decrease not extinction to be moral. It can only slow down not stop completely. So what is next? More space exploration would be great in my opinion. What other options do we have? This planet is only so big. My son is interested in learning how to make an ecosystem survive in outer space. The children are our future not vice versus.

Supply Vs. Demand  –Schreiner, Lori4/18/20120

The Law of Supply and Demand is at the heart of Free Market practices. Allowing markets to work with minimal government interference is an important staple of American politics. Markets can create serious problems when unattended.

Based on your assigned reading and what you come across on the Internet, briefly describe the “Law of Supply of Demand.” What are the weaknesses from an environmental perspective? Describe how these weaknesses might be addressed.

The law of supply and demand is what allows the free market to determine price.  The more supply is available of a product the less the demand and the cheaper the price.  The less supply of a product the more demand there is increasing the price.  When a lot of people are buying a product the price goes down.  The company makes lots and lots of the product.  When the people become stationed satisfied with that whim, fad or whatever reason wanting the product, the company can sell cheap an overabundance of supply.  Stores will offer discounts etc….  Then the maker slows making the product and increases the price to continue making a profit and covering the cost of manufacture.  This will continue until the consumer must buy direct from the manufacturer for an expensive price.  Then if the request of the product becomes great or need great again the manufacturer may start making a lot of this product again. It is a continuous cycle.

The major problem with this, from an environmental perspective is that everything made comes from resources.  If these resources become scarce, the price is going to continue to climb until no one can afford anything.   Then the owners of the resources stockpile the resources to let it build back up.  The people do not understand the reasoning behind this become angry, and sometimes wars can be started over the resources.  The population growth compounds this problem.

The best way I see to address the issue is to conserve resources, give to others that do not have much, fair trades between nations with these resources and educate our youth from a young age to conserve.

Plastic of all kinds is made from oil. We live in a plastic world. There are way many things besides fuel that are made out of oil.

I think no one should be able to collect all the natural resources to sell. Only be able to sell what is made from the resources and then must be able to recycle what is made. Eventually as the population increases more and more rapidly the resources will be gone. Also there needs to be inventors finding ways to replenish resources faster. The only thing with that is it might mess with natural order of the universe or something. It might change the weather more rapidly or more storms, etc. What ever is decided needs to start now and be very careful.

Conservation of Resources-Rasmussen College

Why do scientists and educators find it difficult to be precise when declaring a resource as “renewable”?

Renewable Resources

A renewable resource is a resource that can be replenished naturally with the passage of time. [1]

Scientists and educators find it difficult to be precise when declaring a resource as “renewable” because the future is unknown for certain.  Drought could cause lakes and rivers to dry up.  Clouds could cover the sun for days.  Also the demand for the supply could be too much.  All the trees used up before more can be planted.

The growing population growth has no limits on how much resource is going to be needed or used.  This makes an exact science of what is going to happen with a renewable resource impossible to be exact.  It is easy to say although, that the sun will be around for as long as the planet is here and people are alive.  The sun would be the best source of energy.

Analysis of: Losing Our Country, by Paul Krugman

Paul Krugman shares ideas of how the middle-class is disappearing into poverty mentioning baby boomers, war, and greedy politicians taking on a liberal left perspective; however there is no consideration at all of the middle class disappearance related to population growth, pollution, and  dwindling natural resources.  In the first sentence, Krugman mentions “Baby boomers like me grew up in a relatively equal society”. What happens when the baby boomers hit adulthood?  Extreme adult population growth has hit the workforce. More jobs are needed to be created for the influx of people in the workforce.  Krugman mentions the fact that working families have not had progress in income but fails to include that population of workforce has to compete with the same money that a few years back had less people.

This growth of workers in the workforce creates a balance for a time due to more collegiate experts are needed to teach the younger ones new ideas and trades to compete with the ever-growing population.

“Median income doubled between 1947 and 1973……rose only 22 percent from 1973 to 2003” (Rosenwasser, Stephen, 2012, p.687)

Now to cut the pie of money with the baby boomer parents the income levels have to dwindle for the excess amount of people. To do this, the income rates decrease; while the cost of supplies increase. The cost of living (inflation) rises related to natural resources being used exponentially along with exponential population growth.  Next the baby boomers are having babies, and the population soars higher.  Demand is high for everything at the store. Factories cannot keep up with making products fast enough for the consumers to purchase the goods.  When demand is high price goes up.

I worked in a factory in the 1990’s. This era saw collapse of the textile industries in this country.  As the pre-stock employee in the inspector department, I was responsible for locating inventory already sold.  Our company could not keep up with making the rugs fast enough for the customers’ purchases. We lost customers due to they would go elsewhere where product could be gained faster.  This factory closed shop with many others in this country and went to other countries.

All the increased factories, increased fossil fuel usage, and increased consumption related to extreme population growth has now created pollution to the extreme.  Health declines, cancer is on the rise along with heart and lung disease.  Diabetes and kidney failure is growing exponentially.  The healthcare industry is rising exponentially due to all the sickness and extreme population of elderly baby boomers. More and more healthcare workers are needed along with more medications. The demand for medicines is increasing rapidly causing spikes in the price of medications. When demand is high, price is high.  The supply can’t keep up with the demand of the flu vaccination.  How many times has there been a shortage of vaccinations?

Along with the increased pollution causing healthcare issues, the elderly population has risen.  The baby boomers have reached old age.  Cost of healthcare for elderly is expensive due to declining health as a person ages. Demand is high for healthcare. When demand is high cost is high.  The workers in the healthcare are competing for the same money that was for fewer workers a decade ago.  The cost of the supplies is increasing exponentially along with the stagnant wages. All of these things increase anger, frustration, stress, fear, increasing need for psychiatric care.

It is ironic when Krugman mentions in the first sentence that the baby boomer era was the ideal era of equality when the baby boomer(exponential population growth) is the reason behind many problems discussed by him.  Inflation, low wages, and increase between poor and rich salaries are all related to population growth, pollution, decreased resources, high demand and decreased supply.  If wages were not kept stagnant, there would be a bigger gap between the rich and the poor; because there would not possibly be enough jobs for as many as we have at the moment. An employer has X amount of money and can only hire X amount of employees for X amount of money to keep the business alive. To break even, the employer has to cap the wages.  The cost of supplies is increasing rapidly due to demand is increasing. Furthermore, to make a profit the employer must hire more workers to gain incentives set by government (incentives set to keep financial collapse happening in drastic proportion). To hire more employees, it is impossible to give raises = to the cost of inflation, because two employees cost double what one employee cost. I think Krugman looks at the surface but not the whole economic situation.  On the surface, it is easy to assume politicians are only greedy and that is driving wages stagnant and inflation higher.  In reality, the stagnation stems from increase population growth.  This stagnation has kept this country from losing everything. It has prevented a total collapse.

Electric Shock

This is written in English comp 1 discussion response about Langston Hughes “Early Autumn”– I had had a busy day at work that day and the secretary while handing me the confetti to throw on the birthday patient  we exchanged static electricity shock. These small shocks in life always make me stop and smile and think about that moment.  Ever since youth I have like this due to mainly my brother used to always sneak up on me rubbing sock feet on the carpet and shock me in fun.  So the shocks in my life make me smile 🙂

Patricia,

Through your perspective of this encounter I can see the childlike views of love. That people search constantly everyday wondering what brings us together and it is the moment we are in. What creates static is distance, time and looking to the past with regret. We forget about ourselves completely and focus on the one person not ever letting go completely. Continuing on in this pattern can create bitterness, resentment, aging, getting older and older. To stay youthful look at the present and be happy, let go of the past with no regrets. Now I am young and have no regrets of anything I can just play all day and have some fun happy with life and everything around me, I love myself, my life, my career, everything about me. I have no regrets. Everyone and anyone and every situation I have encountered from the moment I was alive until now is my past up until this very moment. I have no regrets for I clearly love myself :)))))I am forever young for I have no regrets. I love, I love, I love.

Very good Patricia:)

The hustle and bustle of everyday life can cause the rift to start creating the static. When you ever feel a shock of static electricity stop for a second and look at what is happening. Have fun and smile it is only the moment you are at that is frustrating not the future or the past just that moment. Shock now you are young again. The future and past just collided and bam its electric shock, just happy to be alive and who you are at that moment. 🙂

Bam electric shock I don’t want to come down I want to stay here forever young, no distance anywhere just the moment if it gets away searching can I find it or is everyone too busy? Sewing, cooking, doing their favorite things happy they are alive and ignoring me, no one wants to play with me, no one wants to teach me, no one wants to sing with me, no one wants to dance with me, no fun so I just sing on my own, dance on my own older , older here I come no regrets though this is kinda cool I am happy just being me, open the car door and BAM electric shock, in the moment the future and the past ………………etc……

I am older loving life this is fresh all new to me. I love myself because everything until this moment is me and I would not be here without it. BAM electric shock now I am singing happy birthday to my patient who turned older today or is she forever young????? Bam electric shock I sing with my co-workers on this busy day that was held up from the start with five machines down and going on overdrive. BAM electric shock it’s not just one patient but two patients’ birthday today:)

She’s forever young she’s smiling on a machine, loving life this moment everything she is from the past, I don’t question the love it’s there all around me in the air, if I get too busy BAM electric shock the future and the past meet at that moment all at once pure happiness that cannot escape. NO arguing no fighting happy at this moment no questioning it’s love in the moment no regrets no questions I am here at this moment 🙂

I did not realize until the next day that Patricia in this class that I wrote this to has worked at an elementary school kitchen for 19 years. She surely has witnessed children’s views on a daily basis for half her lifetime and the other half a child herself.

This day on my job all three backup machines in the back were down before opening the door to the lobby. I am always to have at the least 2 backups and one being worked on at the time to be a backup or it is against State regulations and against the law. So this was the beginning of the day so I went ahead and called and left message to the biotech. I opened the door and three more machines went down that are on the treatment floor each in a different section. I told the other two sections without downed machines to hold their last patient until more machines are fixed making these two machines my backup this way I am in compliance with regulations. I called my supervisor to let her know. So I could go on but this is something that happens and you work around it and go on. My supervisor called later thanking me. This is how being a professional matters more than what the coworkers that do not know the regulations comes in to play. My coworkers see it that I did not trust their judgment. The state can shut us down for not having enough machines for the day. One complaint to the state from anyone if I was to put all those patients on all those machines and no backups would shut down the clinic. It is considered endangerment.

It could be easily proven and an inspector write up for it later on if I was to do that. These machines have computers in them that tell if the machine passed test. They can just pull a report from the machines. The way that I handled this was to make it not a write up for the clinic by not starting three patients treatments on time. The patients did not mind I explained to them it was for their safety. My boss did not mind she called later and thanked me. My coworkers so unprofessional to not care as to report this to my boss as not trusting their judgment. Coworkers that do not know about these things.

I will not forget this day 6-5-2012 but I do not regret what I did. I did the clinic a favor no matter who comprehends.

“Why We Crave Horror Movies” by Stephen King
What does King mean in paragraph 4 when he says that horror movies are “innately conservative, even reactionary”? What does he mean in paragraph 11 when he calls them “anarchistic, and revolutionary”?

“Innately conservative, even reactionary” means that it is normal for society to go to a horror movie and have expectations to be scared. It is a natural born instinct for us to be interested in the unknown and abnormal. I myself have always been curious of everything. Paranormal, unusual perceptions and scary things intrigue me. I always notice in the scary movies the girl/boy always leaves the window open or answers the door to an unknown. Curiosity kills the cat so to speak. I am expecting while watching something to happen but shudder anyway when it does.  I am reacting to my expectation.   King compares this to riding a roller coaster you expect to get a thrill.

Horror films are called anarchistic due to they are “daring” us to watch something besides the normal emotions of ”love, friendship, loyalty, kindness”….  They evoke a change in us to think about things usually not discussed.  It revolutionizes us to remember that not everything is roses.

I find that I generally do watch horror movies with the notion that there will be gore and violence.  Sometimes I have one hand over one eye and just barely peeping at the screen expecting something to pop out.  The eerie music playing in the background especially in the movie Jeepers Creepers, I expect the car to run out of gas before it does.
In paragraph 4, King talks about how the main character is far from ugly. King is trying to say that without some normalcy in the film we would not watch as much as we do.
Kings choice of contrasting words comparing the horror film with “fairytale”, “black and white” help to convey that people enjoy to watch the horror as much as the fairytale.  I do not think this is absolute proof as to why people watch.  I myself have found most horror movies funny as I have gotten older.  Someone is always trying to escape, the person with the white tank top on is the one with the plan and will most of the time survive, the villain is usually in black, curiosity is what most of the time gets them killed.   Watching with my child “I know what you did last summer”, my daughter says mom I would run not go back to the scene.  She can clearly distinguish from a young age the black vs. the white part of the movie.  “The shades of gray are taken away.”
I think King could of used more ancedotes to make his points. Without personally experiencing what he is mentioning this essay would not make sense to some. The audience of this essay would have to have seen a horror movie and noticed the normalcy in the movie to comprehend the essay. It does demonstrate the brilliance of his writing that the implied perception that everyone has seen a horror movie there is no need to explain and leaves you to think deeply about your own experiences.

I think it is quite strange the my favorite actresses are the sincere, drama, realistic types.  I have seen every movie that Demi Moore has played in.  The actressess that can turn on the tears and have you crying with them are the best. Demi Moore, Jodi Foster, Meryle Streep, Julia Roberts etc… The strange part is that my favorite actors are the ones that can go out of there way to get a laugh, Chevy Chase, Robin Williams, John Candy, Steve Martin, Martin Lawrence, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy. I think it is the way that these actresses/actors can act without saying a word and can leave you saying,” wow how did they do that”. Every crease line, hair, eyelash on them is acting, amazing indeed.
I have a couple of favorite serious guys too.. Tom Cruise I have seen all his movies and also Keanu Reeves, John Travolta, Denzel Washington etc… there is so much talent it is so hard to find a one and only favorite.

I agree that there are some people that have never been afraid of a horror movie. My son when little would always tell me ah mom that is not real.  I think it is the expecting wanting to be thrilled, scared when we watch that creates the scary ambience.

King writes that they are black and white leaving out the shades of gray.  This way when you watch you do not have to guesse who is the good guy and who is the villian.  There are no twist to trick your mind.  It allows you to see the ugliness as it is.  It is pretty clear that the guy with the chainsaw cutting up a person is the bad one.  There is nothing to think about that one. I  just watch for the thrill of watching to get a scare.

Yes Thelma that is the first question I ask someone about a Horror movie, Is it scary? If they say not at all it was lame, I won’t be interested in seeing it at the box office at all. I do not want to spend my extra money on a dud lol.

I do not watch alot either but do find myself watching the many sequels to Friday the 13th and Nighmare on Elmstreet to find out what happened in their past to create such a monster that it does not even look human anymore.   Each sequel gives just a very little glimpse to keep me wanting to watch the next one and the next.  Those little elements are what as a teenager would discuss with my classmates about the movie at school the next day.  Did you see when Jason was in the water?  Etc….

Whitney,
I definitely do not think you are psycho insane.  You are right that everyone has personality traits they are instinctly born with.  Have you ever notice that one newborn is happier than another? One likes more or less touch?etc….. We are all born with different combination of traits and no one is exactly alike including a twin.  Maladaptive behavior stems from stress creating these most basic traits to hit overdrive and become uncontrolable.  It becomes automatic without the person even realizing.  Ever seen a stressed out person just go off start screaming, ranting and it does not even make much sense? This is stress on automatic autopilot just snapping and the anger trait is let loose.  It is not yet pscyopathic but could continue on to reach that point. This is the differernce between sane/insane.  A sane person still realizes.  So you are right by watching and realizing this is wrong we keep ourselves sane.  My stress trait is to cry lol. So you are pretty much safe with me:)
I believe the best way to view the horror is to first realize it is not real.  Freddy and Jason are not real.  Then watch how mean they are with out no remorse and  this is the most wrong ever.  If you can determine this then you are definitely sane.  If by chance you think they are real and that what they do is cool and would be something you would like to do; well that is a line crossing.  I would recommend that person to see a pschyiatrist.  Now that you know that watching is more fun cuz it can be for just the thrill and excitement. The scare that you exspect to get.  Just like when very very young and your mom, dad or favorite aunt played peek a boo with us. I hope this makes sense.

I think by revolutionary also it means to realize the wrong and not everything is right in life.  Like if you have ever been beaten by an extension cord t. Click you realize this is wrong. Most grownups that beat their children with sticks and belts and things are the very parents that never watch a horror movie and never allow the children to watch. Is it because they know if they let the children watch it will open their eyes to see that beating is wrong?????? They try to keep their craziness hid from view? From even the children and therefore creating a monster that thinks its ok to continue the cycle with their children.  Generations of abuse began to form over these sick parents not allowing them to see that what they are doing to them is wrong?

Mark as Unread RE: Landrum,Alyssa W2:A1 Lori Schreiner Email this Author 5/23/2012 9:16:59 AM
This is why with my children I explain the good, the bad and the ugly.  I tell them the code word is bubblegum if by chance they are at their best friends house and need me to come get them but can’t say why or what for on the phone for whatever reason. That is the code word all they have to say is mom can you get me some bubblegum and that is my clue to come get them.  As a little kid and even as a grown person I have been in situations that did not allow me to call 911. The mean person (my exhusband) grabbed the phone from the wall and smashed it.  (clearly the maladaptive traits out of hand) Me as a big dummy say out loud I am going to call the police letting him know in advance that is what I am doing. So duh that was stupid of me.  So I give my children code words and teach them to keep secretes. LMAO I can’t keep secretes very good at all but they are like the best at it.  I was never allowed to keep a secrete( was like considered a bad thing growing up) So I still am no good at it.  I problably could of snuck me and my children out of that house with the police that day if someone would of taught me this one little thing. For anyone out there that might be clueless like I  was if your spouse is in a mad rage he might destroy the phone if you tell him nicely that you are calling the police.

Mark as Unread RE: W2A1 Lori Schreiner Email this Author 5/23/2012 9:55:43 AM
I wanted to tell you also that comedy relief is just that a big relief. When you get to the point that you can finally talk about a tradgedy or sad thing in your life without crying without depression. With just being a “big girl” facing the demons and then can even begin to laugh and find the humor in things again it is a relief. To me it works better than rolaids.
I noticed my emotions were strange and very currious about them. As a teenager, I would be at a party my friends would be drunk high laughing uncontrollaby watching Richard Pryor Stand up Comedy.  I would just sit there wanting to cry watching.  Something deep down in me made me think that for him to be able to joke that much, be so funny something horrific had to have happened to him or had seen something horrific. I realize now that the comedy is the relief part.  Now that I have the relief in my own life, I enjoy the comedy of others very much.  The relief feels so good you can not help but like it. I hope this makes sense.

Effective Communication

Writing effectively improves work, college     and my destiny

Effective Communication

Effective communication is an important aspect of everyday life.  Writing memos and instructions that are clear and precise will decrease stress and frustration.  Not only does this decrease stress, it allows community and formulation of new ideas.  What is written has always started out as a thought.  I am reminded of the movie, The Iron Lady, when Margaret Thatcher states,” Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your habits.  Your habits become your character.  Your character becomes your destiny.”  What I think today, effects the lives of others in my immediate surroundings due to the action it brings forth from what is said.   Writing these words could make a difference in the entire world.  If any part of the string is broken that Thatcher remarks, it might not make it back to become my destiny.  Shared ideas are what are needed to formulate plans into action.   Written ideas that are shared can make the difference between success and failure with work and college.

It takes both genius and talent to get something accomplished.  Not everyone is both things at all times.  I have ideas that no one else has that could work very well, but I am not talented enough to build it.  I can write, but I do not know how to make a book.  Communicating to others through writing could encourage a publisher to publish my writings.

Writing is not only important with writing a book but also communicating to my staff new policies, procedures, schedules, and goals.   With a thought out written plan of action, the goals of the clinic are reached easier.  The reason it is easier with it written is because now the thoughts are shared on how to accomplish the goal.   The whole clinic can now work as a team to accomplish the new idea.    When genius meets talent, the goals are reached; and the sky is not limited.

My son named his blog, Genius meets Talent.  It is a place that he writes out ideas for books, games, inventions, economy, or anything of interest.  The day that he started the blog, we had just returned from eating at a Chinese restaurant.   His fortune cookie stated simply,” genius meets talent”. While attending college, I would like my professors to help me improve both my genius and my talent.   To do this, my thoughts must be communicated for feedback on what I am doing right or wrong.  Good grammar is a key to successful communication that is understandable by others.  A new idea is difficult to write grammatically correct due to it has never been said or thought of before.  I must formulate the correct grammar to effectively communicate the new idea.    The most important part of someone accepting the new idea is communicating the new idea in a way that is understood.

Chaos and confusion can be detoured with effective communication.  I think of good communication as road signs directing my path and keeping me from a head-on collision.   Writing effectively communicates to others my ideas, and their ideas are communicated back to me.  Next as a team, we can formulate a goal and a plan of action.  With the plan written grammatically correct, it will be easily understood by many; and the goal can be easily accomplished decreasing stress and frustration.  Effective writing will improve my work, college, and destinyJ

“The Miracle of Melancholia” by Eric G. Wilson

What is the selection’s thesis? Locate the sentence(s) in which Wilson states his main idea. If he doesn’t state his thesis explicitly, express it in your own words.

“A person can only become a fully formed human being, as opposed to a mere mind, through suffering and sorrow.” Sadness can become a motivator for greater happiness.  He supports this idea with the fact that more and more researchers are working on discovering medications to increase happiness and end depression. In a sense, the depression motivates the research to find happiness.

You cannot possibly know what happiness is without ever knowing sorrow.  In search of too much happiness can become an illness. You can become delusional in your sorrow.  Some things are meant to be sad.   Wilson makes this point by comparing the addiction to happiness with circumstances of poverty, ecological disaster, and war.

“But after much contemplation, he decided that sorrow was not a state to be avoided, not a weakness of the will or a disease requiring cure.”  Wilson is trying to say that it is healthy and beneficial for us to dwell in sadness sometimes.   He supports this point with the telling of events of a musician living in poverty.  Then suddenly climbs out with the notice of a symphony written by him.  Also supporting this idea is the telling of a painter that was so depressed she underwent hospitalization.  Afterward, she created her most creative works.

Just like someone with a disability has an opportunity to overcome an obstacle and obtain greatness, someone with great sorrow has the possibility to come from the ashes and achieve greatness.  This contrast makes the difference in mediocre and greatness. The point is to rise above the sorrow and you can become greater than you ever could before stooping into the sorrow.  Wilson does warn not to wallow in the sorrow until it takes over.

I think that the question that the Author ask is very clever. It makes me want to read further to find out  the answer to the question, however I do not think this is the thesis. According to this weeks lectures, a thesis is not a question. It is a statement that makes a vigorous statement to engage the reader to think about what is said.

Sadiqua,
Hi,
I was wondering if you are thinking that the thesis has to be in the first paragraph? This is usually the case with writers new to writing but not with most writers. The thesis can be later in the paper. Lots of writers use the first paragraph to lead the reader to want to read more. The last question on the first paragraph intrigues me to want to read the rest of the essay. The thesis will never be a question. Under week one”The writing process” under thesis, list five things to help locate the thesis. I realize there is a lot of reading material in this class ,and I am ashamed to admit that I do not read everything. This professor put together very great material that is about the best I have ever seen. I am very impressed with this on-line class.

Yes Quolonda,
I feel as though the sickness just puts a pause in your steps to sit back and evaluate the most important desires in your life.  Then you rise above and beyond toward those goals much faster than if the problem never arose.

Yes Whitney I do believe that to know happiness you must know sorrow.  I have worked with children and have had my own experiences to know that emotions are meant to be expressed and not held back.  You start out as a baby and then when older can express these emotions in a way that can change the world with creativity.  In a mental health facility, you will find patients that can sing, dance, play instruments amazingly.  I can relate to the movie Girl Interupted so much because I have been to that same point where the revelations you find at the mental health facility almost want me to continue to live there.  With my own children I notice as small age, like 2 and three when they come to me crying over some very minor thing with real aligator tears, I just cup my hand under their eyeball and say,” here fill this up baby.”  The child immediately stops crying and laughs.  That is letting them know its ok to cry as much as you want until you then experience the happiness.  The quicker the cry is out the quicker the happiness comes.  As a child myself, I was never allowed to show emotions in front of my father.  Laughing or crying either one is not allowed. Even when watching a cartoon no laughing allowed. I never understood this one but would sit on Saturday mornings with my best friend 6 inches in front of the television with me and her pretending that the characters were people we knew.  Watching scooby doo like this, you can’t help but laugh uncontrolably.  My father gently that time quelled my laughter saying hush girls really loudly.  My father always watched cartoons on Saturday so seriously as if watching the news.  He would always tell us children stop crying before I give you something to cry about really mean. I would politely go hide in my closet and cry anyway.  I can relate to Martina McBride singing” Anyway” here are the lyrics: You can spend your whole life buildin’ Somethin’ from nothin’ One storm can come and blow it all away Build it anyway
You can chase a dream That seems so out of reach And you know it might not ever come your way Dream it anyway
[chorus:] God is great, but sometimes life ain’t good When I pray it doesn’t always turn out like I think it should But I do it anyway I do it anyway
This world’s gone crazy and it’s hard to believe That tomorrow will be better than today Believe it anyway You can love someone with all your heart For all the right reasons And in a moment they can choose to walk away love ’em anyway
[chorus]
You can pour your soul out singing A song you believe in That tomorrow they’ll forget you ever sang Sing it anyway Yeah, sing it anyway I sing, I dream, I love Anyway yeah

One reason I love music so much and always like to play my clarinet is because I put my emotions into that clarinet while playing.  I could feel it when I played all the frustration, sadness, grief or even happiness bubbled up and out of the instrument. When I was older out of highschool, I could play that instrument without music in front of me.  I could play at church with the courses that are not in the song book.  I wrote down the notes for the children that were in band to play along with them also.
LOL I remember the days practicing learning it at home.  My parents allowed me to be annoying, and I loved it.  So I always loved to practice with squeaking reeds vibrating my own skin.  As long as I was loud with the clarinet in my room showing my emotions through the clarinet it was allowed.  I love music literally. Music has been with me my whole life kinda like a best friend. It is hard to explain.

Gabriel Smith,
I think happiness stems from your desires.  This makes the difference sometimes between anger and downright physcopath.  I can’t wait to read the essay in next weeks assignment due to this will I think clue me in more on the psycopathic mind.  You can be angry out of love because of disappointment, selfishness or resentment. You can also be angry just because you desire to be angry.  The latter is the one that makes this emotion maladaptive.  What you desire you become.  I desire to be beautiful, therefore in my eyes anyway- I am beautiful.  The things I desire make me happy—music, family, babies, friends, lover, food, butterflies, rainbows… all my desires are not fluffy bunny types but also make me happy….alcohol, fattening food, cigarettes use to be my pacifier, etc…….. What I desire makes me happy.  Its important to choose desires carefully because some desires will end your life prematurely.

Mark as Unread RE: W1A3 Lori Schreiner Email this Author 5/18/2012 10:59:35 AM
A desire can also cause sadness also due to it is unobtainable. Unrequited love would be an example of this.  This would put you down into the gloom Wilson is talking about. Then what are you going to do? Lay down and die or rise above and use it for creativity?  Maybe write a poem, song, letter, cry till you can not cry anymore.  I have done that one before, and I do not think I was finished. The “Paxil” fortunately stopped the tears after 3 days of it.

I have found in my online classes it is the discussions that help me the most with learning. On line class is so cool also because of the one on one feedback from instructors to help you improve and develop creativity.  I want to gain as much as I can from them, for I realize they have spent a lifetime learning what I am just stepping into.
Proper english in business is very important. I have found that other countries read my blog more than this country.  Their choice of words are different than ours, so understanding each other clearly I must use proper vocabulary. Then they could go to the dictionary and understand what is said.  Not much could get accomplished with failure to communicate.  This is the polite thing to do.  I think it is considered impolite to talk slang or improper english without explaining what is meant.  It makes you seem unconcerned with what is being said.
I would like to learn other languages as well as my own.  I am confused with english so much; I do not know if I could learn another language.  I greatly admire them though. I have facebook friends that can write in 5 different languages.  Translator applications are helping with understanding more and more.  I find that my spanish speaking translator can not translate most spanish speaking patients.  I am finding that one spanish speaker has difficult time understanding the spanish speaker beside them.  As a nurse, the communication is very important.  .

It is important to choose goals realistically to help keep you from depression.  I always pick a big goal that I am constantly working toward. Then pick small goals that will lead up to the big goal.  If the goals become difficult or something happens, re-evaluate and continue.  My mind stays happy now that I am working towards it with either I have or have not reached it. The frustration is removed and I am happy just being me.  You can choose these goals with not only the things you want to achieve but how you interact with others and things that make you feel other emotions.  Not only look at what makes you happy and work towards that. Look at what makes you sad and how to improve upon that also. Like example me being fat, ugly, bored, etc….makes me unhappy.  Now I look at the things in my life that lead to those things.  Eating poorly, not going to the salon, no money for activities or no one to talk too.  Now I make goals to improve these things.  I set a goal to eat salads and go to the gym twice a week.  I set a goal to get a manicure every two weeks and go to the salon at least once per month. I set a goal to work all my hours at work and maybe an hour overtime to be able to go out.

I am very blessed to have never experienced this much loss. I have experience the separation of the only bloodkin to me that I have ever met. Having an attachment so much and then separated without choice hurts really bad. It changes your life forever due to you can never go back to the point of before this happened. When a loss happens most go through stages of denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. According to Kubler Ross, these stages are different with each individual. You can go through the stages in a different order or so fast through some of the stages that you do not even notice it. You can go through a stage more than once and although you have reached acceptance the depression, anger, denial , or bargaining can come back again. I was completely changed for life over just my separation from my children. The thought of their life, ending I never want to think about ever. Thankyou very much for sharing because your losses alow me to see that worse is out there and if you can get through all that, I surely can get through all my little troubles. I believe to make a difference in the world you have to be able to see the world.
